Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast

The Royal Victoria Hospital treats more than 80,000 people as inpatients and 350,000 people as outpatients every year. The hospital provides local services to the people of Belfast and a large number of regional specialist services to people from across Northern Ireland. These specialist services include cardiac surgery, critical care and the Regional Trauma Centre.

Safegard supplied the dedicated V5 addressable system which was linked directly to the building's Fire Alarm and Detection System to control and monitor motorised fire dampers throughout the hospital. The V5 system was selected based on the required application in the given areas of the building.

The V5 System is designed to protect life and property from damage caused by smoke and fire. In the case of an emergency, the fully-integrated life safety system plays an extremely important role; the automatic fire dampers that are incorporated into the system. Working with the client, our engineers were able to assist in interpreting the complex cause and effect requirements, and then programme the system to ensure that in the case of a fire, the control panel directs particular dampers to close in the affected zones of the building. Engineers have designed the system with the user in mind, providing an innovative tool that has a simple means of installation and operation.
